Apropos of nothing

What are your thoughts about Henry James? Or, what do you think of when you hear the name Henry James?

(Note: You needn't have ever actually read Henry James to be able to play along at home.)

Long and boring. I can't say from where on earth I got that impression. I haven't read any of his books but whenever my eyes snag on something about him the lids begin to droop. It's very strange. I think that he's one "great' author I'll never get around to reading.

I love Henry James, though I have mostly only read short stories and one short novel (Turn of the Screw); And when I think of him I get defensive because people love to hate him--writers I also love hate him (like Nabokov--but he hated Dostoyofsky too)and most of these young kids today with their rock and roll music and long hair and beatle boots don't think he's "with it," with his long, complicated sentences, but I am here to tell the kids, Henry James is very "happening."
